Dental Exam & Cleaning in Ketchum
The most common procedure performed, a dental cleaning, serves as the forefront to optimal oral health. At our dental practice you can expect a cleaning that is thorough and professional.
Professional Dental Cleaning
Our dentist or certified dental hygienist will perform 3 basic procedures that make up a dental cleaning:
Calculus control
We use specific tools that are designed to wash away any calculus, or tartar, that have accumulated on your teeth. Tartar resides above and just below your gum line and must be removed in order to prevent gum disease.
Hand instruments
Special hand instruments are used to thoroughly remove all plaque, bacterial toxins, and tartar deposits from your teeth and root surfaces.
Polishing
Lastly, we use a polishing paste to further remove plaque and minor surface stains for a complete & thorough cleaning. The polishing substance is flavorful and it leaves your mouth fresh and revitalized.
It is very difficult to achieve excellent oral health without visiting your dentist at least twice a year for a routine dental cleaning. This is because traditional brushing methods are unable to remove tartar, though plaque prevention is still possible.
What does the ADA recommend?
The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that patients visit a dentist twice every year. Most insurances will cover two visits as a result of this recommendation. If you are unsure, then please contact your dental insurance provider and they will clear up any confusion you may have.
